Are you a new coach? Or did you just hire one?

Anytime a new coach takes over a program, they have to quickly assess the skills of each of their new student-athletes so that they can begin to consider how the team will need to compete, what further development is needed, and what recruits they’ll need in the pipeline.

Measuring athletic skill is the easy part, but it’s far more difficult to figure out whether or not the leadership and culture needed for success are in place. Typically that becomes apparent over time; practices begin, and team dynamics start to manifest.

But what if a new coach wanted to accelerate that process? The DAL360 is a great tool for quickly measuring the leadership behaviors that have been research-proven to impact team effectiveness among the members of a team, fostering the dialogue that will enhance those behaviors, and gaining insight into how teammates perceive one another.

The reports and summaries generated by the DAL360 give a coach insight into each student-athlete’s relative leadership strengths, as well as opportunities for growth, which can be particularly helpful if team captains (or other leadership groups within the team) have not yet been selected.

In addition, the coach receives a roadmap for developing each of the behaviors measured by the DAL360, which can serve as a handy guide for planning practices and other team engagements that continually incorporate leader development.

All of this combined can help to give the coach a much earlier snapshot of the team they’re inheriting, and how best to position them for success moving forward.

Leadership is a sustainable, competitive advantage and should be developed with the same intentionality as any other athletic skill/scheme!
